Gigondas – 2017

The Gigondas vineyard spreads over 1250 hectares, entirely on the village of Gigondas, in the Vaucluse district, at the south east of the Rhone valley production area. The appellation starts on the plateau at 100 meters high, and then spreads upward around the village up to an altitude of 430 meters, on the slopes of the Montmirail Lace Mountain (Dentelles de Montmirail). From the 12th century, the religious communities organised the extension of the vine culture. Later on, until the 17th century, Gigondas belongs to the Principality of Orange, which was the property of the Rhein family of Nassau until the King Louis the 15th took possession of it. Gigondas was declared an appellation in 1971.

Tasting Comments

Robe

Garnet red with purple hints. Deep colour.

Nose

Complex nose with notes of black fruits (blueberry and blackcurrant) and spices (pepper notes).

Mouth

Frank attack with supple tannins. A pleasant liveliness. The finish is ling and fresh.

Food match

A hit with red meat, game, cheese (Roquefort).
